Column, designer and period-style radiators available

We supply and fit a full range of radiator styles. Standard single and double panel. Column rads. Designer flat panel. Period-style cast iron effect. Column and designer rads cost more to supply but are priced on quote. Call us and we will help you pick the right rad for your room and budget.

Types of Radiator We Supply and Fit in Liverpool

We supply and fit every type of radiator found in Liverpool homes. Panel rads. Column rads. Designer rads. Towel rails. Low surface temp rads. All in one firm.

Standard panel radiators

Single and double panel rads are the most common type across Liverpool. Double convector (type 22) rads give the most heat for their size. We fit these in most Liverpool rooms. They come in all standard lengths and heights.

Column radiators

Column rads suit Liverpool's older homes well. They look right with the period style. We fit steel column rads in two, three and four-column versions. Heights run from 600mm to 1800mm. The right size matters. We work out the heat output the room needs before we suggest a model.

Designer and flat panel radiators

Vertical designer rads are good for rooms where wall space is tight. We fit designer rads in all standard sizes. We advise on output before we order. Some designer rads with low surface area can under-perform in big Liverpool rooms if not sized right.

Bathroom and towel radiators

Heated towel rails and bathroom rads come in chrome, white and anthracite. We can wire them to your central heating circuit. Or fit a dual-fuel version that works on its own. Handy for Liverpool homes where the bathroom is not always on with the rest.

Underfloor heating coexistence

Got underfloor in some rooms and rads in others? We can run the rad circuit into rooms the underfloor system does not reach. Common in Liverpool extensions and new kitchens.

Low surface temperature radiators

Low surface temp (LST) rads are a must in care homes. They are smart for rooms with young kids or older adults too. The rad surface stays below 43 degrees no matter the water temp. We fit LST rads in any Liverpool home where they are needed.

Radiator Brands We Fit. Standard, Designer and Period.

We fit rads from every major UK brand. Pick the right one for your budget and your style.

Standard Panel: Stelrad, Quinn and Myson

Standard panel rads from Stelrad, Quinn and Myson. Stelrad is the UK's most-fitted rad brand. Their Elite range is the standard pick in most Liverpool homes. Quinn rads have a low water content which means faster heat-up times. Myson rads are made by the Finnish Purmo group. All three have good UK spare parts.

Stelrad

UK heritage brand, founded 1936. The Elite range is the most-fitted panel rad in the UK. Good value, strong build, easy parts.

Quinn (formerly Barlo)

Low water content means faster heat-up. Lower gas use overall. A good pick for energy efficient homes.

Myson / Purmo

Made by the Finnish Purmo group. Strong on warranty. The Myson T6 is a popular pick.

Designer: Reina, Hudson Reed and Bisque

Designer rads from Reina, Hudson Reed and Bisque. Reina is the UK leader for towel rails and designer rads. Hudson Reed comes with a 10-year warranty on all rads. Bisque does high-end designer pieces. Vertical rads are good for rooms where horizontal wall space is tight.

Reina Design

UK leader in designer rads and towel rails. Modern, sleek styles. The Casina and Diva ranges are popular picks.

Hudson Reed

Diverse range with a 10-year warranty on every rad. Good mid to high-end pick.

Bisque

High-end UK designer brand. Premium pricing. Best for main rooms in higher-end Liverpool homes.

Period and Cast Iron Effect: Carron and Stelrad Column

Period and cast iron effect rads from Carron and the Stelrad Column range. These suit Liverpool's Victorian and Edwardian homes well. They give the same heat output as a panel rad but look right with the period style. Best for living rooms, hallways and main bedrooms in older homes.

Carron

Cast iron-style rads with the look of original Victorian rads. Modern build, period style. Sit well with old fireplaces and coving.

Stelrad Column range

Steel column rads in two, three and four-column versions. Up to 1800mm tall for rooms with high ceilings.

Adding a New Radiator to Your Liverpool System

Need to add a new rad to your existing system? We do this every week across Liverpool. Most extensions and loft conversions need at least one extra rad.

Common reasons to add a radiator

Common reasons to add a rad: a new extension. A loft conversion. A garage conversion. A conservatory. A cold corner of a big room. Or a room with no rad that should have one. We extend the circuit to the new spot and connect a new rad with a TRV.

What is included in the job

Adding one rad takes 2 to 4 hours. We drain the system, run new pipework to the new spot, fit the rad with a TRV and refill. We balance the whole system after. The job is done in one visit with minimal disruption to your home.

Power flush check first

If your existing system is clogged, we suggest a power flush first. Without it, the new rad fills up with sludge fast. We check the system at the quote visit and tell you if a flush is needed. A flush plus a new rad in one visit is a better combined price.

Cost from £200 supply and fit

A new rad added to your existing system costs from £200 supply and fit. This covers the rad, the TRV, all new pipework to the new spot and the system balance on the day. Multiple new rads can be done in a single visit at a better combined price.

Increasing or Decreasing Radiator Size in Liverpool

Got a room that never warms up? Or one that runs too hot? The rad is often the wrong size for the room. We can swap it for the right one.

Undersized Radiator: Room Will Not Warm Up

If your rad is too small for the room, the heat output is too low. The room never gets warm even when the boiler is at full tilt. A bigger rad or a double panel swap fixes this. We work out the BTU output the room needs first. Then we pick a rad that hits that number.

Oversized Radiator: Room Runs Too Hot

If your rad is too big for the room, the room gets too hot too fast. The boiler short-cycles and gas use goes up. A smaller rad or a TRV fitted on the current one keeps things in check. A right-sized rad is more energy efficient. You burn less gas for the same warm room.

Why We See Wrong-Sized Radiators in Liverpool Homes

Common reasons we get called for sizing changes: a new room layout. A new extension. A loft conversion. Or just a rad that was wrong from day one. We size each rad based on room size, wall type, window size and floor type. We give you the right output, every time.

How rad sizing works

Every room needs a set BTU output to stay warm. The number depends on the room size, the insulation level, the number of windows and what is above and below the room. A rad with too low an output will leave the room cold. A rad with too high an output wastes gas. We work out the correct BTU at the quote visit and pick a rad that hits the number. Sizing changes start at £150 per rad.

Radiator Relocation in Liverpool

Moving a rad to a new wall? We do this for kitchen redesigns, new built-in furniture, decorating jobs and full room layout changes.

What the job involves

We drain the circuit, take the rad off the old wall, reroute the pipework to the new spot, fit the rad and refill. Then we balance the system. Most relocations take 3 to 4 hours and we do them with minimal disruption to the room.

Victorian and Edwardian Liverpool homes

In Liverpool's older homes with solid walls, pipes run under suspended timber floors where we can get under. Or in neat boxing on the surface. We plan the route to keep things tidy and to save period features. Relocation starts at £150 per rad.

Will the new spot work?

Where can a rad go? It needs to be near the circuit. It needs wall space. It needs to be sized for the room. We assess all of this at the free quote visit. If your chosen spot will not work, we say so and suggest the next best option.

Common reasons for relocation

Kitchen redesigns where the rad needs to move for new units. New built-in furniture that blocks the old rad spot. Full room layout changes after decorating. Or a rad in the wrong place from a previous fit. All can be moved.

Signs Your Liverpool Radiators Need Attention

These are the most common rad problems we attend across Liverpool. Most are quick to diagnose and fix.

Cold at the bottom, warm at the top

Sludge and magnetite settle at the bottom of the rad and block the heat. Bleeding will not fix it. A power flush is the right step. If more than one rad in your Liverpool home has a cold bottom, the whole system needs a flush.

Cold at the top, warm at the bottom

Air in the system rises to the top of the rad and pushes water down. Bleeding with a rad key fixes this. If the rad keeps needing a bleed, air is getting in. The cause is often a worn pump seal or a small leak in the circuit. Worth a check.

Radiator completely cold

A fully cold rad on a working system often means a stuck TRV. Or a block in the rad itself. We can find this on a visit and often fix it on the same call. No need to swap the whole rad in most cases.

Radiator leaking at valve or connection

A small drip from a valve or pipe can often be fixed by tightening the gland nut. Or swapping the valve insert. If left, a leaking rad can damage the floor and ceiling below. Worse in Liverpool's multi-floor homes.

Radiator making noise

A tick when the heating comes on is normal. The rad is expanding. A bang, gurgle or whistle that keeps going means air in the system. Or sludge moving around. Or pump trouble. We find the cause before we suggest any work.

Radiator visibly corroded or damaged

Surface rust on an old rad speeds up rust inside. A rad with rust through the panel or any physical damage needs a swap, not a fix. A rusting rad also sheds iron oxide into the system, which builds up sludge across the whole circuit.

Not sure what is wrong with your rad? Call us and we can usually work it out over the phone before booking a visit.

Thermostatic Radiator Valves for Liverpool Homes

A TRV on every rad is one of the most cost-effective heating upgrades you can do in a Liverpool home. The Boiler Plus rules need TRVs on all new installs.

Why Every Liverpool Radiator Should Have a TRV

  • Sets the heat per room. The lounge runs warmer. The spare bedroom cooler. No heat wasted in rooms you do not use
  • Cuts heating bills by 10 to 15%. The Energy Saving Trust says TRVs in a Liverpool semi can save up to £75 a year
  • A must under Boiler Plus rules on all new rad fits since 2018
  • Stops south-facing Liverpool lounges from getting too hot in the sun
  • Works with all modern boilers and smart thermostats
  • Fitted from £50 per valve. A full house of TRV upgrades runs £150 to £300 and pays back in two winters

Note: one rad in the house (usually the hallway) should be left without a TRV to act as a bypass. This lets the boiler move water even when all other TRVs are shut. We always tell you about this when we fit TRVs across a full house.

Radiator Installation in Liverpool's Victorian Homes

Liverpool's older homes have their own quirks. Our heating engineers know each type well.

Solid Walls, Suspended Floors and Period Features

Liverpool's older homes have solid brick walls. No cavity. Horizontal pipe runs across solid walls go in boxing on the surface. Or under suspended timber floors where we can get under. Both work fine. We check each room at the quote visit and pick the neatest route.

Suspended timber floors let us run pipes below without lifting carpet. Where floors are solid, we use neat boxing on the wall. We plan every route to keep period features safe. Coving and old skirting all left as they were.

Choosing the Right Radiator Style for a Period Liverpool Home

Standard double panel rads work fine in older homes and give more heat for the price than column ones. If the look matters, column rads in two or four-column versions suit Victorian rooms well. They come in heights up to 1800mm for rooms with high ceilings.

For Liverpool homes with big bay windows, a rad in the bay is the best way to fight cold air from the glass. We size the bay rad for the actual room, never just for what fits in the alcove. An undersized bay rad is one of the most common causes of cold front rooms in Liverpool Victorian terraces.

Should You Power Flush Before Fitting New Radiators?

If your existing system has sludge build-up, fitting new rads to a clogged circuit will fill them fast. Here is how to know if you need a flush first.

You need a power flush first if...

More than one of your existing rads has a cold spot at the bottom. The water from bleeding is brown or black. Your boiler bangs or kettles. The system takes ages to warm up. Any of these means sludge in the circuit that will fill new rads fast.

You do not need a flush if...

Your existing rads all heat well. The system warms up fast. The water from bleeding is clear. In this case new rads can join the circuit straight away. We top up the inhibitor on the day.

We advise at the quote visit

We check the state of your system at the quote visit. If a power flush is needed, we say so and tell you why. We never push work you do not need. A power flush costs from £350 and can join your rad job at a better combined price.

Radiator Installation Liverpool. Your Questions Answered

Straight answers to what Liverpool homeowners ask most before they book.

COST  How much does radiator installation cost in Liverpool?

A standard double panel rad, supplied and fitted, costs from £200. This covers the rad, the TRV and a system balance on the day. Labour only for a like-for-like swap starts at £80. TRVs from £50 each. Relocation from £150. Column and designer rads are quoted on request. We give a written fixed-price quote first.

TIME  How long does radiator installation take?

A like-for-like single radiator swap takes 1 to 2 hours. A new radiator addition with pipework takes 2 to 4 hours. Multiple radiators can often be completed in a single day. A full house TRV upgrade typically takes half a day. We confirm the expected duration when we quote.

SIZING  Can you change a radiator to a bigger or smaller size?

Yes. We can swap an undersized rad for a bigger one to warm a cold room. Or fit a smaller rad in a room that gets too hot. We work out the BTU output the room needs first. Then we pick a rad that hits that number. A right-sized rad is more energy efficient. You burn less gas for the same warm room.

ADDING  Can you add an additional radiator to my existing system?

Yes. Adding a rad to your existing system takes 2 to 4 hours. We extend the circuit to the new spot and fit the rad with a TRV. We balance the system after. Most extension, loft conversion and conservatory jobs need at least one extra rad.

RELOCATION  Can you relocate a radiator in a Liverpool Victorian property?

Yes. We drain the circuit, reroute the pipework to the new spot and balance the system. Relocation starts from £150. Cost depends on distance. In older Liverpool homes with solid walls, pipes run under timber floors or in neat boxing on the wall.

TRV  What is a TRV and do I need one?

A TRV sets the heat output of one rad. Different rooms can run at different temps. Under Boiler Plus rules, TRVs are a must on all new rad fits. They cut heating bills by 10 to 15%. We fit TRVs from £50 per valve. One rad in the house should be left without a TRV to act as a bypass.

FLUSH  Do I need a power flush before fitting new radiators?

If your rads have cold spots at the bottom, or the water from bleeding is brown or black, a power flush is a must before fitting new rads. A clogged circuit will fill new rads with sludge fast. We check your system at the quote visit and tell you if a flush is needed.

BRANDS  What radiator brands do you fit?

We fit rads from Stelrad, Quinn, Myson, Reina, Hudson Reed, Bisque and Carron. Standard panel rads, designer rads and period-style rads all in the range. We can supply the rad or fit one you have bought. Tell us your budget and style and we will help you pick.

GAS SAFE  Are you Gas Safe registered?

Yes. Liverpool Emergency Plumber is on the Gas Safe register. All rad work that joins the heating circuit is done by our own employed Gas Safe heating engineers. You can check us at gassaferegister.co.uk. We never use sub-contractors.
